Vanish By Sophie Jordan Review

What a gorgeous cover!

Synopsis...
"An impossible romance.
Bitter rivalries.
Deadly choices.

To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?"
Okay, Cassian and Tamra are really getting on my nerves in this book. SO IS THE AUTHOR. Let's talk about Cassian. He's like a lost puppy trying to find its old owner. Will he let Jacinda go? She found her boy, so Cassian really needs to stop pining for her. He really needs to stop using people too. For example: Jacinda's sister, Tamra. I like Cassian only when he and Will were bro bonding. I totally loved that part. They were amazing together, not in that romance way. It's in the bromance way. I love bromance.

Tamra... Well, she is a freaking annoying character. Even though Jacinda and Tamra are twins, they don't talk a lot. Tamra keeps on getting in the way. Tamra seriously needs to stop minding other people's businesses. I started liking Tamra toward the end of the book. She was good and humorous unlike the bitchiness in the beginning.

The author especially was pissing me off. In the first book, Firelight, the author created a masterful, beautiful, and blissful setting. Now, all we see is the ugliness of it. Where is the main character's delight of being a draki or flying?

Second, Sophie Jordan keeps on cutting off in the best parts. It's like: Where is the conclusion? Hello, we need a conclusion!

Third, the author cuts off and leaving us with dreadful cliffhangers. This book's cliffhanger was just...Ugh! Vanish needs a better cliffhanger.

The kidnapping... Hmm... In my opinion, the person who was kidnapped should stay kidnapped. I don't like the character. She is another brat in the story.

The writing was good. No complaints. The plus is that this was probably the bright side of the book, Vanish. One of the few bright lights.

Jace is a good character. She is still reckless and she doesn't really think about the consequences. She is amazing when there is danger around. She has compassion in a world where there is very little of that. She is slightly upbeat even though the Pride wants to clip her wings so she will never fly again.

Will... I love Will. I love how he sees the things that Jacinda doesn't see. He can spot the blind spots in Jacinda's vision. He is still cute in this book. I am excited about the third book because Draki blood runs through Will's blood. I wonder how is that going to affect Will, the Pride, Jacinda, and everyone else.

Spoilers (Skip this section if you just don't want to know)

1) Jace dodged two bullets. Figuratively.
2) Miram is the one who got kidnapped.
3) Tamra is a rare Draki.
4) Will still remembers everything.
5) Will and Cassian may be on not-going-to-kill-on-sight relationship.

End Spoiler

This book's rating is a two out of five. Very disappointing.

Firelight by Sophie Jordan Review

Many of you are unfamiliar with books like these. So I included the synopsis.

"A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.
Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki, a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.
Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away;if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.
Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide."

Draki is like this internal dragon which "manifest" to show its true colors. The human body changes to become dragonlike. Or an actual dragon. It's sort of weird, but you'll understand it by the second book. Hopefully.

Jace is the narrator of Firelight. She is cherished by the Pride. (A group of draki also like Jacinda.) She is sometimes reckless, but she has a good heart. She is brave and smart in times of great danger. She knows how to fight and has trouble when she really needs to back down instead of fighting the enemies. She is going to be bonded to Cassian, who is kind of like the prince of the Pride. Jace is also a firebreather, a rare type of draki. Very rare and hasn't happen in generations.

Will is the love interest. He is associated with the opponents, Jace's enemies. His family, hunters of draki like Jace, may had something to do with Jace's father. Will, as said by other girl characters, is cute and an outcast. Unlike his cousins, Xander and I-can't-remember-the-other-one-but-he-is-as-mean-as-Xander-and-a-freaking-hunter-of-draki, Will is much nicer and has a thick shell to protect anyone from getting close to his heart. He doesn't want anyone to get hurt because of him.

Side Note: I wish this book has revolving POVs. I have a good feeling that everything would be much different.

Anyway, this is a good book. I felt that it was rather interesting to read about Sophie Jordan's imagination.

The writing was pretty good and smooth. No changes needed.

The ending killed me. It killed me. I mean, after all this time, THIS HAS TO BE THE ENDING!!! Are you kidding me? WHY!?! JUST WHY IS IT LIKE THIS!?!

This book's rating is a three out of five. Go WILL! GO WILL!
